Helloooo world! I’m am FINALLY sitting down to my laptop, with access to Wi-Fi, and actual photos of our new, lived-in home to blog about! That’s right. I dug out the big camera for this one.
Here’s a recap of the last six weeks. We were supposed to close on both homes August 21st. My dad’s birthday. That didn’t happen. We closed on our old home on the 24th and our new home three weeks late on September 11th. If you’ve closed on a home or refinanced lately, you can probably guess all the trouble we ran into with our lender and the appraisal. But my momma taught me that when you have nothing nice to say, you should just be quiet. So, moving right along!
My husband’s brother and family generously opened up their home to us in the interim and our builder let us move in all of our things until we worked out a deal to rent-back from him until closing. We were very fortunate during the delay in that we didn’t have to stay in a hotel or put all our things in storage and move twice. Whew! Now the papers have been signed, almost everything is in it’s place, and we are settling into the new routine of work and school. (And sports.) Ah!!
Here’s the kitchen and dining room. The only thing missing are the open shelves to the right of the sink. I may or may not be getting a bit antsy to get those up. Husband is promising them to me this week. Yes!!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen this so keep scrolling. If not…I literally designed the main living area partly around this buffet. I love it that much. It holds lots of cupcake supplies and provides a space to set things when we eventually entertain. Plus, she’s pretty!
Above the buffet is a watercolor my mom painted of apple slices. The blue in the background of it matches perfectly with the rest of the space. Our kids eat apple slices every night while we read books before bed so the scene is a familiar one in our home. As you may know, I like to have personal connections to most things I decorate with and this area definitely meets that criteria.
To the right of the buffet is the angled entry to my HUGE pantry. (That of course, I didn’t take a picture of. Sorry!) I cut a piece of stick-on chalkboard paper to fit in the top panel of the door instead of painting it with chalkboard paint. It says “PANTRY” at the moment just so no one gets confused and tried to use it as a watercloset. In the future I can add shopping list items or sweet notes to my children to remind them to stay out of Mom’s chooclate!
Entryway. I love my teal door and school house light!
Guest bedroom. The bed was given to us by my husband’s uncle (along with several other furniture pieces in our home). I chalk painted it with Annie Sloan’s Paris Gray to freshen it up and it turned out beautiful! And easy!!
Master bedroom. A chalk painted bed found at a yard sale, two chalk-painted side tables with plenty of drawer storage, leather chair found curbside during “clean-up week,” and another hand me down vintage chest of drawers makes up the large furniture pieces in our master. I bought the window treatments and lamps on clearance at my favorite red big box store. The pillows are recovered from a 4 pack of napkins also on clearance from said store. And I made the quilt. I mention this because you don’t have to spend tons on a matching bedroom suite to have style. Time, patience, a creative use of resources, and a little luck can give beauitful results!
Master bathroom. It’s not super fancy. But you guys. We all four shared a 5’x7′ bathroom in our old house. It was beautiful (after we renoed it) but it was TINY. And now, holy buckets we have THREE BATHROOMS in our new house! If three of us need to relieve ourselves at the same time, we can do that. No more waiting and whining!!!
And that completes this portion of the New House Tour. I have a birthday party to plan and a wedding cake to make next weekend but I hope to sketch out some time to finish a few lingering projects and get back to regular blogging. In the meantime, you can keep up to date on what’s going on around here by following my on Instagram @being.libby. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week friends!! <3
